Time Commitment: Active play requires regular access to Ikariam throughout the day, especially if you enter wars. Conflicts can be time-consuming, and you need to be available to respond to attacks and coordinate movements.
Population and Gold Management: Your citizens produce 3 gold per hour when not assigned as workers or scientists. Higher population means larger armies. Focus on expanding towns and upgrading Town Halls to fuel military growth. Maintain positive net gold income, preferably over 5,000 per hour, to support your army.
Distance Management: Distance is a major limiting factor in warfare. If troops take 8 hours to reach their target, the enemy has time to prepare. Proxy colonies and occupied towns are vital for launching attacks from close range, giving enemies only 15 minutes warning.
Pillaging Strategy
Target Selection: Upgrade Hideouts to level 32 to spy effectively. Find targets with high resources and low military, preferably not in strong alliances. Inactive players often yield tens of thousands of resources for minimal cost after their defence is destroyed.
Raid Execution: Either establish a colony on the target island or occupy a small town there. This cuts travel time dramatically. Speed is essential—move quickly, attack quickly, and retreat before retribution arrives.
Cargo Ships: For maximum pillaging profitability, aim for the full complement of 180 cargo ships to loot 90,000 goods per raid. Some players leave trade ships behind to evacuate their army if necessary.
Market Manipulation
Active players can influence local market prices by controlling supply and demand. The tactic involves:
- Buying out opposition offers of a resource
- Listing massive quantities at higher prices (up to the maximum of 15 gold per piece)
- Waiting for the market price to rise
Important Warning: Many players have been banned for this tactic as it violates the “pushing” rule. Trades giving unfair profit to higher-ranked players are against game rules. Check your specific server’s rules before attempting market manipulation.
Mobile Colony Strategy
